Santeria: The pantheon of orishas. Ibeyis
Published: Jun 27, 2010 - 08:57 AM
The Ibeyis are twins, brother and sister, loved by all the Orishas as their own children. They are the children of Shango and Oshun, although they were created by Yemaya. They love to play, eat, and get into trouble.
They are the patrons of barbers and surgeons, and of children. In the Ibeyis one finds peace, tranquility and stability.
They are Orishas of reaffirmation and of great prosperity. Through their mediation difficulties can be overcome.
Their receptacle consists of two jars, generally one red and white, and the other blue and white. Their attributes are two small dolls made of carved wood.
They are syncretized with Saint Cosme and Saint Damien, and are celebrated September 27.
